AIDC Workshop 2025: Pushing the Frontier - Innovations and Challenges

Singapore, 4 July 2025 — The AI Data Centre (AIDC) Workshop convened more than 100 industry leaders, key opinion influencers, and academic experts to explore the future of sustainable digital infrastructure in the AI era.

Co-hosted by the Infocomm Media Development Authority and SGTech, the workshop also saw Red Dot Analytics play a key role in shaping the programme and facilitating discussions that connected research perspectives with industry priorities.

Keynote: Intelligent and Resilient AI Infrastructure

Opening the workshop, Yonggang Wen, Chief Scientist at RDA and President’s Chair at NTU Singapore, highlighted the growing urgency for intelligent and resilient AI infrastructure to support the next phase of digital transformation.

Prof Wen spoke about the industry’s accelerating shift toward “AI factories” and outlined several emerging challenges facing digital infrastructure operators, including increasing rack densities, advanced cooling requirements, growing operational complexity that demands automation and resilience by design, and the financial pressures associated with rapid hardware refresh cycles.

He also emphasised the importance of accelerating sustainability efforts as the global data centre industry works toward reducing its carbon footprint alongside greater integration of renewable energy sources.

His keynote reinforced the need for continued innovation across both infrastructure systems and operational strategies to ensure digital infrastructure can sustainably support AI’s exponential growth trajectory.

Industry Perspectives: Building for the AI Future

The workshop also featured industry case studies from senior leaders including Sujit Panda, COO of BDx Data Centres, and Verghese Jacob, SVP of DayOne, who shared practical approaches for improving energy performance and reducing carbon impact across data centre operations.

This was followed by a panel discussion titled “Investment, Innovation & Technical Standards: Shaping the Future of AI Data Centres in Singapore”, moderated by Jimin Jia, CEO of RDA.

Panelists included representatives from across the digital infrastructure ecosystem:

  • Arvind Verma, Infocomm Media Development Authority
  • Yee May Leong, Equinix
  • Lye Yit Tho, Bridge Data Centres
  • Suppan Saravanamuthu, Iron Mountain Data Centres

The discussion highlighted the importance of aligning investment, innovation, and technical standards to ensure the long-term sustainability, resilience, and scalability of AI-ready digital infrastructure.

Advancing National Sustainability Efforts

Beyond industry-led initiatives, government agencies also shared updates on Singapore’s broader sustainability efforts for digital infrastructure.

Infocomm Media Development Authority introduced its Energy Efficiency Grant, aimed at supporting the adoption of high-performance and energy-efficient IT hardware, while PUB presented updates on water efficiency guidelines and the Water Efficiency Fund to encourage more sustainable water management practices across the data centre sector.

Together, these initiatives reflected Singapore’s strong commitment to public-private collaboration in advancing sustainable digital infrastructure development.

Pushing the Frontier Together

The AIDC Workshop 2025 demonstrated how industry, academia, and policymakers can work together to address the rapidly evolving demands of AI infrastructure. From strategic discussions to operational insights, the event reinforced Singapore’s growing position as a regional hub for sustainable and AI-ready digital infrastructure.

At RDA, we are proud to contribute to this ecosystem by supporting innovation, collaboration, and operational resilience as the industry continues to push the frontier of digital infrastructure forward.
