Workshop on Sustainable Digital Infrastructure in the AI Era

Singapore, 28 June 2024 — RDA’s Chief Scientist, Prof Yonggang Wen, was invited to participate in the Workshop on Sustainable Digital Infrastructure in the AI Era, hosted at the National University of Singapore.

Centred around the theme “Envisioning the Future of Sustainable Digital Infrastructure in the AI Era”, the workshop convened leading voices from industry, academia, and government to examine the growing opportunities and challenges surrounding the next generation of digital infrastructure.

During the session, Prof Wen shared his perspectives on building a more sustainable future for AI, highlighting the increasing need for intelligent, energy-efficient, and resilient infrastructure as global AI adoption continues to accelerate.

Prof Wen also participated in a roundtable discussion alongside industry and research leaders, where conversations explored the future trajectory of digital infrastructure across areas such as AI-enabled sustainability, advanced cooling technologies, carbon-aware computing, and low-carbon energy systems.

The roundtable brought together distinguished representatives from across the digital infrastructure ecosystem:

  • Andy Sim, Dell Technologies
  • Adam Bacon, Bloom Energy
  • Jimmy Yam, Eaton
  • Yee May Leong, Equinix
  • Marcus Tong, Infocomm Media Development Authority
  • Prof Tin Wee Tan, National Supercomputing Centre Singapore
  • Prof PS Lee, National University of Singapore

The discussions reflected on the rapid evolution of computing infrastructure over the decades, from mainframes and personal computing to cloud computing and now the AI era. As AI continues to drive unprecedented demand for compute capacity, the industry faces an increasingly important challenge: balancing infrastructure growth with long-term sustainability.

At RDA, we remain committed to supporting this transition through AI-powered operational intelligence and digital twin technologies that help enable more sustainable, resilient, and efficient digital infrastructure.
